How To Use Curlfit Hair Makeup

Applying Curlfit hair makeup is a piece of cake! So get ready to have a seamless experience from your natural hair color to a vibrant burst of your desired color!

But not to fast, firstly, you have to....

Step 1: Prime your pump bottle

Your Curlfit hair makeup is stored in an airless pump bottles or Jars. Unlike the usual bottles that make use of tubes or straws to pump products out, an airless pump bottle works with a vacuum mechanism (the bottles don’t come with straws). Basically, there’s a plate at the bottom of your bottle that pushes all the color out so you can use every last drop :)

For your first use, you will need to ‘prime’ the bottle by pumping slowly for about 10-15 times (“strokes”), this essentially activate the vacuum pump system to get the color out.

Step 2 : Application

Start off on clean, dry hair. We recommend starting off with a strand test to see if you prefer the results on damp or dry hair.

How to Strand Test:

  • Take two small sections at the front of your hair.
  • Spray a little bit of water on one section (not enough to make it wet, just damp)
  • Apply a leave in conditioner (see criteria below)
  • Apply a pump of your Curlfit hair makeup to both sections and wait to dry.
  • From the results, choose the application method you prefer (on damp or dry hair)

Step 3: Use a leave-in conditioner.

The main benefit of using leave-in conditioner is to add moisture, but you can skip this step if you don’t have one. To test if your leave in conditioner is compatible with our colors, mix a pump of conditioner and a pump of our temporary hair paint wax together, if it blends seamlessly - it’s compatible. If it forms clumps, it is not.

Step 4: Apply your styling products

If you would like to use a clear gel/mousse/ curling custard, now is the time to use that. please note that using too many products with your color will lead to flaking and there is a possibility that your hair might turn out dry because you would be layering a lot of gel products in your hair.

If you want your curlfit colors to last longer/ you don’t want the flaking and dryness, skip this step.

Step 5: Apply your Curlfit hair makeup

A pump of hair paint wax goes a long way. Unless you have Rapunzel length hair you should not have to finish the whole bottle on your hair!

You can start off by applying a good little and then using more depending on how bright you want your colour to look then style as usual.

Step 6: Air dry/Blow dry

Finally, air dry or blowdry your hair. Depending on the amount of color used and your hair porosity, it may take between 30minutes to 4 hours to air dry completely. Blow drying or diffusing at this stage is the best if you’re in a hurry.

Skipping oils in your hair routine is recommended while using our curlfit hair colors. This reduces the amount of transfer you may experience significantly and increases the lifespan of your colors.

How to Maintain your Hair Makeup
At Night:

  • Put your hair up in a top or low ponytail
  • Sleep with a bonnet or silk scarf/Durag.

These steps should be a staple in your hair care routine even without using Curlfit colors since they prevent your hair from breakage and losing moisture while you sleep! With Curlfit hair makeup in your hair, this step is to prevent your colors from transferring while you sleep and is important in making your hair color last as long as possible

The next day:

  • Spritz your hair with water lightly to reactivate your color and rake your fingers through your hair from root to tip to blend the color into your hair
  • Detangle and style as usual, then air dry or diffuse.

Pro tip:

Wet your palms then rake your wet fingers through your hair to reactivate your hair color the next morning if you don’t have a spray bottle. Dont “pour” water on your hair so your color doesn’t rinse out.

Dont comb/brush your hair dry. Doing this disrupts the colors that have bonded to you hair strands, causing it to “flake off”. Even without having color in your hair, dry combing (or brushing) your hair can damage it, since static can lead to both "flyaway" hair + knots and cause tangles to form. Especially with kinky curly hair.

How Many Times Can You Use One Bottle (50ML)?

  • Short hair - 3 to 5 times
  • Medium length hair - 2 to 4 times
  • Long hair - 1 to 2 times
  • Highlights - Up to 10 times

please note that this estimate is for medium density
hair and the fuller your hair, the less number of uses you'll get out of one bottle. For this reason we always recommend purchasing the regular size (100ml) to use your color multiple times. The 50ml size is our sample size.
